The Crystallization Kinetics in Semicrystalline Nanocomposites
Description of the residual stresses in polymer pipes
Poduška, Jan ; Majer, Zdeněk (referee) ; Hutař, Pavel (advisor)
This thesis is dealing with the issue of residual stress present in the wall of a polymer pipe and the influence on its lifetime. Experimental data obtained by the ring slitting method are evaluated and the tangential residual stress in the wall of polypropylene pipe is determined. The evaluation is carried out using a new methodology based on the curved beam theory. The method is verified using numerical simulation. 3D numerical model is used to verify the behavior of the pipe, when there are both tangential and axial residual stresses present in the pipe wall, because the presence of axial stress causes a rise in the magnitude of tangential residual stress. A correction of the tangential stress values corresponding to the pipe length is then proposed. It is shown, that the distribution of the tangential residual stress does not depend significantly on the dimensions or ma-terial of the extruded pipe and a general equation is proposed to describe the distribution. This general distribution is then involved in the calculations of the pipe lifetime that are carried out using a method based on the linear elastic fracture mechanics. A significantly lower lifetimes are obtained when taking the residual stress into account.

The bachelor‘s thesis gives a complex review of options and methods for manufacturing polyethylene acetabular liners in artificial joint hips. It describes the development process of polyethylene from the early 70s to nowadays. Several manufacturing techniques of polyethylene liners and their effect on the wear resistance are also listed. The final part of the thesis focuses on older and modern evaluation methods of linear or volumetric wear rate of polyethylene liners.
Durability of Polyehtylene Ribbons from Netwrap
Huljak, Pavel ; Poláček, Petr (referee) ; Bálková, Radka (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the measurement of mechanical properties and accelerated aging of monoaxially stretched polyethylene strips coming from three types of polymeric mesh, which serves to pack hay on baling machines. The strength of the strips is evaluated from two points of view. The first one is static tensile strength measured before and after accelerated aging at 23 °C and 40 °C, the second one determines the strength as the weight that causes the strip failure on a simple machine at 23, 40, 60 and 80 ° C. The results show that the smallest static strength has the least stabilized strip, which, on the other hand, revealed the highest strength in a dynamic loading. The change of supermolecular structure was evaluated by calorimetric measurements. The data shown only very little change of inner structure due to the average response of the whole crystalline phase comprising relatively wide distribution of crystallites. It is more than probable that supermolecular structure had been changed but the method is not sensitive to see the change of orientation of lamellae and macromolecular chains in them.
CHARACTERIZATION OF WRAPPAGING FILMS BASED ON POLYETHYLENE AND POLYPROPYLENE
Bělašková, Marie ; Poláček, Petr (referee) ; Bálková, Radka (advisor)
By seven kinds of coextruded and blown packing polyethylene and polypropylene based films, which are supplied by Granitol were characterized in this bachelor thesis. The following methods were used for characterization: thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy , and scanning electron microscopy. The methods made possible to determine the composition of the films and to evaluate the degree of crystallinity.
Optimizing of Polymer Surface Treatment for Microscopic Examination
Horská, Pavlína ; Poláček, Petr (referee) ; Bálková, Radka (advisor)
Supramolecular structure of eight commercial types of iPP, its blends with poly(L-lactide) (PP-PLLA) and copolymers with ethylene-propylene rubber (PP-EPR) together with four types of polyethylene (LDPE, HDPE) was uncovered and observed in this work. The spherulitic structure of iPP and PE homopolymers and PP copolymers was uncovered by etching of six different solutions of mineral acids with KMnO4 and by dissolution in four selected solvents. The latter was found to be ineffective. The structure of PP-PLLA blends was uncovered only after recrystallization (the change of structure by annealing and cooling rate). The uncovered crystalline structure was observed directly by confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) and SEM. Crystallinity together with a size distribution of crystallites was determined by DSC. It was proved that spherulitic supramolecular structure was easy to uncover by chemical etching only for molded samples and for fracture surfaces of injected samples. The efficiency of etchants varied but, generally, the samples with high degree of crystallinity were etched earlier. The etchants containing nitric acid and high content of sulphuric acid uncovered fine details of shperulites with respect to mixtures containing orthophosporic acid. It was also observed that not only the etchant (especially with nitric acid) itself but also its vapors were effective. The structure was revealed later but the appearance was plastic (3D) and the structure was very fine. The supramolecular structure of PP-PLLA blends differed with amount of each component. The ethylene-rubber phase came forth with increasing time of etching while PP spherulites disappeared in PP-EPR samples. CLSM was shown to be very good tool for observing supramolecular structure of studied samples with respect to SEM, which was proved to be entirely unsuitable for polyolefines. DSC is recommended to be performe before uncovering supramolecular structure for basic information about proportion of amorphous/crystalline phase and size of crystallites.

The purpose of this master’s thesis is foremost to provide a simple guide how to build elements of optical metropolitan area network. The basic model consists to sequence of construction, network topology, passive and active parts. The collection contains examples of alternative technology such as Wireless LAN with different frequency. The optical network construction based on optical cable, fibres, splices, trays, adapters, connectors and active parts for example a lot of media convertor models. After that there are demonstrating type of wavelength division multiplexer used in metropolitan area network – passive planar PCL splitter. One of the passive planar splitter are used to increase optical fibre channel. At the end of the collection a simplified examples of used measurements – optical time domain reflectometry and optical fibre transmission. Contains standard protocols or reflectogram. The conclusion of this thesis summarizes costs of FTTb (Fibre To The Building) model of optical metropolitan area network in Czech republic and future contribution for society.
Fracture Behaviour of Pipe Grade Polyolefins
Fiedler, Lubomír ; Hutař, Pavel (referee) ; Kučera, Jaroslav (referee) ; Vlach, Bohumil (advisor)
The thesis deals with the study of the fracture behaviour of the pipe grades of high density polyethylene (HDPE). Detailed study of current state of knowledge was performed in the first part. The focus was put on those types of polymers used for pipeline applications, the limit states of the plastic pipes, and the key parameters affecting the fracture behaviour of plastic pipes’ materials. The methods used for testing the plastic pipes and native pipeline materials were summarized. In the second part of this work, the relationship between the processing conditions, internal structure and fracture behaviour of the native types of HDPE pipe grades was evaluated. Than, the correlation between short-term alternative tests and the standardized accelerated full notch creep test (FNCT) was studied. An experimental basis for numerical model for evaluation of the fracture behaviour of multilayer pipes was established. Two types of non-homogeneous specimens for evaluating the resistance of multilayer pipes against slow crack growth (SCG) were suggested. This evaluation was based on the parameters of linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) and elasto-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM).
